The Cloquet River is rich in natural and cultural history. For centuries it was the wilderness route of the Ojibwe. Later it was explored by the famous French explorer Sir de La Verendrye. Today, this section of river still has a wilderness like feel to it.

The section we paddle flows through mixed conifer-hardwood forests affording incredible scenery as we paddle through moose and wolf country. Massive white pines tower overhead as bald eagles soar from their tops. The trip begins on swift flowing waters and the final two miles end with fun class I and II whitewater rapids into the St. Louis River.

$47.50/person for a 2-3 hour experience. Trips run June through September at 9am and 2pm.

Prices include professional guide service, knowledge of the natural history of the region, use of equipment, and shuttle if necessary.

Meet at the Park and Ride in Scanlon, Minnesota right off of I-35 (Before crossing over the St. Louis River if heading north from the Twin Cities, if heading south from Duluth, exit after crossing over the St. Louis River).

This trip is ideal for those that feel somewhat comfortable in a canoe already but aren’t entirely confident in their ability to read and negotiate whitewater.

This trip will help hone your canoeing skills as we paddle flat water in order to access class I-II + rapids. Must be in physical condition to paddle, portage, and shoot rapids!
